welcome to ajfc - 2009

2008 wa nab afl auskick centre of the year

Welcome everyone to the new season at Applecross Junior Football Club - Home of the Hawks.

2009 promises to be another great season and we are looking forward to kicking it off on Sunday 22nd February with our Family Fun and Registration Day. We will have rides for the kids, the bbq will be going and drinks will be available for the adults. I invite you all to join us and have an opportunity to catch up with other families, meet the AJFC Committee, Coaches and Team Managers. We may even have a few special guests.

AJFC is one of the oldest junior football clubs in the district and we cater for all age-groups from Auskick (5 year olds) up to and including 16/17 year olds. In 2008, as our reputation as the best junior footy club spread, and our grass roots membership in Auskickincreased dramatically. After being awarded with the best Auskick Centre in WA in 2008, I expect this strong membership to be maintained this year.

So, what makes us a great club? AJFC has around 250 fantastic kids who love their footy as well as countless motivated parents are always willing to turn a few sausages on the BBQ, carry water bottlesor wave flags in the goals. We also have a group of specific volunteers who offer their time, talent and depth of expertise as Committee Members, Team Managers and Coaches. Of course, we always have a welcoming smile for anyone interested in joining the Club’s Committee or Football Department in a voluntary capacity.

Aside from our volunteers, AJFC is fortunate enough to be supported by many generous Sponsors, who have all helped the club to establish and maintain our superb facilities and first-rate equipment. With the help of our Sponsors, Club membership, the City of Melville and the Department of Sport and Recreation, we were able to install training lights at our home ground at Gairloch Oval. The lights will give all our teams much more flexibility for training during the coming season and I know that all the kids are looking forward to training under them. Again, we thank our past sponsors and look forward to continuing support from the community in the years to come.

At AJFC we pride ourselves on the fact that we are very much a family orientated club which values participation, sportsmanship, community and skill development within a friendly social environment. Last season, the Committee began to recognise the club's emerging history as such re-established links with a number of former players from the 1950s and welcomed them back into the Club. We are keen to hear from others with historical connections to the club, so please feel free to contact us if you wish to add to our historical records.

During the coming season, we plan to continue with our popular team based Sundowners as well as the possibility of holding an offsite formal function. We welcome and encourage all our players and families to join us at our social events and will keep you informed of these events via our monthly newsletter as well as on the website.

Finally, I look forward to meeting you at the Club over the coming season and hope to see you all at our Family Fun Registration Day on Sunday 22nd February between 2pm and 5pm.
