Message from the President
Welcome to the Applecross Junior Football Club. The home of the “Hawks”.
The Club has a proud tradition being established in 1952 and was the first Club in the Applecross/Ardross/Mount Pleasant areas. Applecross is an inaugural member of the East Fremantle Junior Football Council.
Since that time, the Club has provided an opportunity for many boys and girls to learn and play Australian Rules Football in their own area and has attracted many players from other areas that have heard about the high standards and ethos the Club practices. The Club has produced many fine footballers that have gone on to play WAFL and AFL. The Club is the only junior football club in Western Australia officially affiliated with the AFL’s Hawthorn Football Club. The Club’s headquarters is at Gairloch Oval in Applecross but also plays 13s and older age groups at Strickland Oval in Ardross.
The Club is growing with Auskick more than doubling its numbers in 2008 and has also fielded six teams in the 9s-15s age groups. Sponsorship support the Club has also grown which has provided new jumpers and jackets for the teams as well as the general sponsorship.
The Club prides itself on a strong culture of being a community Club and you will see this more on or Club Vision page. I encourage you to have a look at the whole website that offers a great deal of information to players/parents and generally about the Club.
Applecross Junior Football Club – tradition, strength, culture, community,
enjoyment.

AJFC 2008 WA nab AFL auskick Centre of the year
At the recent state NAB AFL Auskick Awards, Applecross Junior Football Club was awarded with the 2008 Western Australian NAB AFL Auskick Centre of the Year. Brad Stone from NAB and the State Auskick Manager WAFC, Clayton Anderson presented the prestigious award to the ecstatic AJFC Auskick Co-ordinator, John McGarrigal and Senior Coach Andrew Brown.
Over the past year, AJFC has proudly increased the Auskick membership from 43 in 2007 to a staggering 125 in 2008. With the support of local schools, businesses and East Fremantle Development Staff, the club’s aim for the season was to
- Raise the awareness of NAB AFL Auskick within the Community.
- Maintain, nurture and provide kids with an exciting game day environment.
- Ensure kids have fun whilst improving their football skills, co-ordination, health, fitness and social skills.
- Promote the Club ethos of the ‘Family Club’.
- Ensure growth in registration numbers did not affect surrounding clubs.
This awareness campaign was rewarded by an astounding new membership growth of over 250%. The growth was testimony to the tireless effort undertaken by all involved.
The club is now focusing on the coming season, welcoming players and families feedback. We hope to continue the success seen in the 2008 season.
